2-step verification - FAQ

2-step verification is an important security update for fidelity.ca that involves two authentication steps performed one after another.

Step 1: Enter your user ID and password.

Step 2: Enter the 6-digit passcode that will be sent to you by your preferred method: email, text or voice message.

Fidelity requires 2-step verification for users accessing their confidential information online via My Book, My Access and the Dealer Centre. This added second step brings an extra layer of security to help us confirm that it’s really you.

Fidelity takes the protection of your information seriously. 2-step verification helps guard your account from unauthorized access should someone obtain your user ID and password. The second step of verification dramatically reduces the ability for someone else to gain access to your confidential information, therefore reducing the risk of fraud.

You will automatically be required to set up 2-step verification in the following cases:

  • new registration
  • first login after the launch of 2-step verification
  • password reset

Set-up is quick and easy.

  1. Provide your email address and phone numbers when prompted.
  2. Select the method by which you want to receive your verification code and hit Submit and Send Code. The options will vary based on the contact information you provide
    • email
    • phone 1 (mobile) – text
    • phone 1 (mobile) – voice message
    • phone 2 (work/home) – voice message
  3. Enter the 6-digit verification code you receive to access your account. This code is valid for 30 minutes.

Any time there is a change to your user ID, password or device, you may be prompted to enter a verification code to confirm it’s really you. This added layer of security is to help ensure access to your confidential information remains secure.

When you are to enter a verification code, you will first need to select how you want to receive the code.

Your available options will vary based on the contact information you provided for 2-step verification. Your options may include

  • email
  • phone 1 (mobile) – text
  • phone 1 (mobile) – voice message
  • phone 2 (work/home) – voice message

Select your preferred method and hit Submit and Send Code. Then enter the 6-digit code you receive to log in.
